Karditsa-based Central Protein SA was awarded with the 1st award in the “Clean Technology” category. The event was organised by the “Hellenic Environmental Awards for Companies” under the auspices of the European Institution of “green” entrepreneurship awards.
The European Institution is supervised by the European Commission, and the awards were handed at the Gaia-Goulandri Museum Centre. EU Commissioner for the environment Mr. Stavros Dimas was also present, and he was the one who handed the prestigious award to CEO Mr. Kostas Tsakmakidis.
Central Protein SA was awarded in recognition of its efforts in protecting the environment and its entrepreneurial success. The award allows it to distinguish itself as one of the few European companies that are at the forefront of European policies towards a new, sustainable “green” development.
It is worth mentioning that the company has a 20 thousand ton capacity for treatment of dairy by-products, producing roughly 1,900 tons of various whey protein products. Thus, the Central Protein factory actively enforces the “green” industry principles by processing environmentally unsafe by-products that come from the country’s largest dairy companies. In this way, it helps provide an environmentally safe solution to a great environmental problem.
Central Protein’s activities constitute a great innovation for Greece, as there are no alternative solutions for the processing of a by-product that is commonly disposed of in environmentally disastrous ways.
